Fun countryside walks for your dog with like-minded pups, enriching activities, and all round fun!
Hi, I'm Sofia - an animal-mad, countryside loving Farmer's Wife. I live with my husband (the Farmer), two lovely Labradors, my cat, three donkeys and numerous guinea pigs.
I established The Farmer's Wife in February 2020, and was it the best decision I ever made. In the past I have worked in the heritage and non-for-profit sectors, having studied BA Archaeology and MA Heritage Management, but animals have and always will remain my true passion.
I am DBS/CRB checked, insured and have undertaken canine first aid training. Please ask to see my certificates if required.

Before taking on any new clients I'll always arrange a free Meet & Greet session. This is a quick c.30min pop in so we can meet face-to-face, discuss your pets needs and complete some paperwork.

As we all know, not all dogs get on! I work with owners to place dogs into suitable groups, pairings or stick to solos where necessary. Whether your dog is reactive, nervous, overly confident and playful, or just a great all rounder, I try my best to work out a suitable option for your needs.
From little to large - I am confident and experienced handling dogs of all sizes - the largest so far having been a beautiful Bull Mastiff called Bear! My van has extra large crates, as well as small ones, plus removable dividers to fit all sizes of dog. I use my own leads and have equipment suitable for stronger heavier breeds, as well as lighter more delicate little'uns.
My group walks have a maximum of 6 spaces. Of which, these are carefully curated to ensure all the participants are happy, safe and comfortable with one another.
Before a new dog joins a group walk, I will always do a solo walk/session with them in order to better understand their behaviour, reactions and temperament, and match them with the most suitable group.
I do offer solos and smaller groups when possible, and try my best to find the most suitable option for you and your pup.
Yes, I can offer pet transportation services for vet visits, grooming appointments, and other errands. Please contact me for more information and pricing.
Unfortunately I do not offer day care, house sitting or holiday cover for dogs.
For cats and other small animals I do cover holidays, in which I offer one or two home visits a day.
Please note, I will not do walks or home visits for owners that decide to leave their dog home alone overnight whilst they are on holiday/away.
For day care, boarding and other holiday care, always check the person you are contacting is licenced with the correct local authorities.
My main collections follow the A366 - from Faulkland up to Rode and the surrounding villages such as Woolverton and Laverton.
I do not cover Frome, Radstock or Midsomer Norton.
If you are unsure, get in touch and I'll be happy to help.
Yes! After my initial Meet & Greet, I usually set up a WhatsApp group with the owners - and any friends or family that want to stay updated. This is where I share photos and videos of every walk and visit. I often apologise in advance for photo spam as I do like to send a lot! Of course if you'd rather not receive these, just let me know, but I've found this to be what makes me stand out from other walkers.
I also post once a week or so on my Facebook page with photos from all my walks and visits.
I dog walk on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I can do morning and evening home visits on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, but not during the day.
My walking times start from around 8:30am and end around 4:30pm/5pm.
If you have a one off need for evening or morning walks - e.g. you're out late or have an early start, just let me know and I'll do my best to help.
In my dog walking bag I aways carry a small pet first aid kit (with a larger more comprehensive kit in my van), treats (of course!), many biodegradable poo bags, my phone, keys and business cards. If it's particularly warm I will bring water and a bowl, otherwise this is always available at the van before and after walks.
I use my own leads (but dogs must wear their own harnesses/collars). I do have a few spare collars and a harness but for best fit and safety, yours are best! I can help recommend and fit harnesses and muzzles if you're unsure.
In my van I have a doggy shower for those extra mucky pups, shampoo if needed plus towels galore. I'll try my best to return your dog as clean as possible after their walk.
I am not a certified dog trainer or behaviourist, but do understand the basics and can help with simple training whilst out on walks for actions such as walking nicely on a lead, waits/stays/leave its etc., or silly fun things like learning new tricks! I'm happy to give advice and chat with you through any issues or concerns you may have about your dog, and to recommend trainers or behaviourists where suitable.
Often on home visits we'll do some basic training/games for mental stimulation, such as learning/performing basic commands, tricks and scent work.
I do walk intact dogs, but am careful with who they walk with if in a group and where we walk. This is something I can discuss with you at a Meet & Greet.
If your dog is in season, she will not be able to come out on a group walk. I can offer on lead solo walks in a quiet area, or a home visit as an alternative.
Unfortunately I am only able to take on new regular walking clients.
We are extremely lucky to be surrounded by beautiful green countryside, woodlands, cycle tracks and streams - walks take place in a variety of locations on public footpaths, bridlepaths, in country parks, woodland or on fields on our own farm. Sometimes we'll have sniffy urban walks, but I do try for countryside as much as I can.
I try to make walks as "off-lead" as possible for the dogs that can go off the lead, barring the start and finish where we may need to cross a road or are parked in a public space. If your dog cannot go off the lead, I use trailing long lines or a strong tape flexi lead (when suitable for the dog) to help them get the most from their country adventure. We practice plenty of recall and have numerous photo and treat stops during the walks. We may have to go on lead mid-walk when meeting other walkers or passing potential hazards.
